Robert Childs is Executive Vice President of Human Resources at American Express (AXP). Robert leads the Human Resources Advisory Services & Capabilities (HR-ASC) group. HR-ASC is focused on delivering HR services in the areas of recruitment operations, service delivery & payroll to improve the user experience and drive greater efficiency through end-to-end process design. Robert’s team manages data which delivers insights to power decisions concerning organizational changes that are intended to help AXP grow. Robert also has responsibility for three different HR Business Partner teams who support the Global Technology function, the Global Services Group and most recently the Global Merchant & Network Services function in all forms of day to day change, organizational & talent leadership.
Prior to this current role, Robert served as the Chief Learning Officer (CLO) for AXP where he was responsible for developing and executing a company-wide training and development strategy to improve the employee experience, deliver operating efficiencies and enable higher productivity. Before assuming the CLO role, Robert served as a HR Business Partner for about 15 years where he crafted and executed the global transformation of various business units. His efforts led to enhanced operating configurations, better operating margins, greater productivity and higher customer satisfaction.
During his 30+ years with American Express, Robert has collaborated with business leaders to develop and implement solutions to improve customer servicing standards, increase customer loyalty and increase market share through the acquisition of new clients.
Robert received a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Business Management from Cook College, Rutgers University. Robert is committed to education and serves on the Advisory Board of the nonprofit organization Determined to Educate and works with the Eagle Foundation to improve New York City public schools. Robert is a consummate sports fan and lives by the motto “Never let a day go by, without taking the opportunity to learn something new.”
